Really Bad Soap

January 9, 2007

Because not every batch can be a good one!

The night before last I made a batch of soap and just knew something wasn’t right. It didn’t gel properly and the seizure it had was truly something to behold.  This is from a tried- and- true recipe, but the fragrance oil was new. It was bad, but I was hoping to save it.

So, today I decided a rebatch was in order. I cut up the soap, threw it in the soap pot and tossed it back in the oven.

Once it melted down, I went ahead and added in a bit more FO. Hurm. That’s not pleasant. What would cover up that smell? Maybe I can save it and just use it around the house, so let’s try this. Nope. How about this? Naw…I know! This one.

Great- now to slosh it into the molds and I’m done.

Ah, the trials and tribulations of being a soap maker.

I’m proud to introduce you to my newest creation…

Looks like .. uhm .. like spoiled rocky road ice cream. And the scent?

Dead on for flea shampoo.

I did not imagine that someone makes this natural soap this days. In 80’s in my region, nearly all the women made this soap in house. In our home my father was the specialist, he used the remained fat pig and and sodium hydroxide (we named it soda caustica)also other things, I don’t know… We always made the laundering with this soap.It looked even better than yours…

  2. Im sorry, I have to laugh! Ive had some doozies too, I feel your pain. My worst rebatch was a blend of oakmoss and ‘blech’ it turned out looking like rancid meat. Ive still got the entire log.
Id shred and melt down your flea soap (if you dont like flea soap ;) ) and let it cook off the fragrance in a crock pot for a few hours and give it another shot. Double handmilled- thats gotta be some great soap!

I had to laugh too, but then decided it could pass for chocolate; just don’t eat it! :o )
